The aroma of roses fill the air with steam rising from the pool, creating complete relaxation at the spa; dead silence echoes from the walls. Through the peace, there lies a young woman floating lifelessly upon the water with roses dressing her body. Days earlier, Clarissa had planned a romantic date with her boyfriend. It has always been the couples’ dream to visit France, but it was hard for the dream to become a reality as their relationship was secretive. Only an hour before, Clarissa called her love, David and said,
“Hey honey,” she said, “Where are you?”
“I’m sorry. I am wrapping up a case. Raincheck?”
“Fine,” she ended the call despairingly.
An idea came to her... Moments later she was headed toward his apartment as a surprise. Clarissa opened the door to discover him cheating on her with another woman. -
In the spa, a young detective named Sarah heads out to take a dip in the pool before her appointment only to find a body.
Calling dispatch, “I have a 10-79. There is a woman in her mid-twenties with no pulse at the spa.”
“Ambulance and backup are on the way.”
Within ten minutes the Chief showed up, which was unusual as he doesn’t usually work in the field. David asked the manager the identity of the woman.
“Her name is Clarissa Williams. She’s a regular.”
“Do you have any other information on her?”
“I’m sorry, no”
David informed Sarah, “the body is Clarissa Williams.”
Sarah said, “May I work alongside you? I want to find whoever did this.”
“Always. I want to find the murder too.”
Waiting for the coroner to finish the report, the two investigators receive a search warrant for Clarissa’s apartment. Sarah and David searched for 45 minutes and came up empty handed. Clarissa’s phone and computer were no longer in the apartment and the apartment was clean a bit too clean. Buzzing from David’s back pocket revealed a phone call from the coroner.
Answering the speaker, “What was the cause of death?”
“She had been stabbed in the heart with one stab. The killer was smart Clarissa shows no sign of struggle therefore may have known the killer.”
Weeks of investigation arise, David and Sarah questioned all of her relatives and friends. One thing was common in all the questioning, everyone mentioned a mysterious guy she was dating but they didn’t have a description of him. All the two came up with was deadends but that time allowed for their connection to grow stronger. Sarah loved the way David would fidget with a pen while he was thinking and David admired Sarah’s ambition.
Staring into David’s blue eyes in the middle of the station, “I love you.”
“I love you too,” he admitted after a pause.
It was all thanks to this case that sparks began to fly. Something always bugged Sarah about the case though, how perfect Clarissa’s apartment was and how quickly David showed up to the spa . Without David knowing Sarah went back to take another glance. In a ceiling tile, Sarah found Clarissa’s journal. Sat Clarrisa’s bed Sarah began to read the days leading up to her death.
Dear Me,
Why is life dreadful? The love of my life is with another woman. What did I do wrong? Why am I not good enough? I always date “bad boys” and this time I date a man in blue yet he goes around and stabs me in the heart. How could David do this to me?
~Clarissa
Could it be? Sarah’s David and the Chief of the NYPD? It couldn’t. Sarah rushed back to the presaint to confront him.
“May I talk to you in private?”
“Sure. What’s up love?”
“I went back to Clarissa’s apartment and found her journal… It mentioned a man in blue named David. Are you the mysterious man?”
“I swear to you that I have never met her before I saw her dead.”
“I believe you.”
Something still seemed off to Sarah, as she walked home she felt someone following her. She turns down an alleyway; her stalker turns the corner. It was David. She breathed a sigh of relief that only turned into fear and rage. He was holding a knife. At that moment everything clicked.
“You are the mysterious man. You cheated and killed Clarissa. Why did you?”
“I swear I didn’t mean to cheat. It just happened. I got caught up in a whirlwind relationship with a girl from a bar. I’m the Chief of the NYPD; I couldn’t risk Clarissa ruining my reputation.”
“I loved you but I can‘t love a man who has betrayed and sinned.”
Sarah quickly drawn her gun and fired, aiming at David’s knee. Sarah called dispatch, “I have caught the murder of the Clarissa William’s case. Send back up.”
